Football

Football commonly refers to a team sport played between two teams of eleven players each, using a spherical ball. The objective of the game is to score goals by getting the ball into the opposing team’s net. It is known as soccer in some countries, particularly the United States and Canada, to distinguish it from American football and other variations of the word.

In its most popular form, football is governed by a set of rules known as the Laws of the Game, which are maintained by the International Football Association Board (IFAB). The game is played on a rectangular field (pitch) with goals at either end. Players primarily use their feet to control and move the ball, although goalkeepers are allowed to use their hands within their penalty area.

Football has a rich history and is one of the world’s most popular sports, with millions of players and fans globally. It includes various formats, such as association football (soccer), American football, Australian rules football, rugby football, and others, each with distinct rules and playing styles. The term “football” can thus refer to different games depending on the region and cultural context.
